Israeli Center Seeks Probe Into Alleged Assault of German Journalist
According to a statement released on Sunday, the organization submitted a complaint to Israeli authorities requesting "a criminal investigation into the serious testimony given by the European activist," referring to the German journalist.
Based on the journalist’s account, the organization said that female prison officers at Givon Prison in the city of Ramla instructed her to remove all of her clothing while male guards allegedly observed from behind a curtain.
The complaint further alleges that one of the female officers sexually assaulted the journalist while male guards laughed during the incident, according to the testimony cited by the organization.
The statement also described additional alleged mistreatment during the journalist’s transfer from the port to Ketziot Prison in the Negev Desert. According to the organization, she and other participants in the aid flotilla were exposed to both physical abuse and verbal harassment by members of the security forces and prison staff.
Israeli authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations, according to reports.
