Germany Records Unprecedented Rise in Politically Motivated Offenses

(MENAFN) Germany registered a historic high in politically motivated criminal activity during 2025, with official figures showing 85,837 incidents nationwide. According to reports, offenses linked to far-right and extremist groups accounted for nearly half of all recorded cases.

Data released by the Interior Ministry indicated that neo-Nazi and right-wing extremist actors were responsible for 42,544 politically motivated crimes. Among these were 8,396 offenses driven by xenophobic motives, as well as 4,138 incidents involving verbal abuse or physical attacks directed at religious communities, including both anti-Muslim and antisemitic acts.

Reports also showed a significant increase in violence carried out by right-wing extremists. A total of 1,598 assaults targeted migrants, refugees and political adversaries, marking an increase of more than 7% compared with the previous year. At least 1,146 people were reported injured in these attacks.

Addressing the figures at a news conference in Berlin, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the country had reached a record level of politically motivated crime and stressed that right-wing extremism continues to represent the most serious security concern.

“By far the highest number of offenses were committed by right-wing and far-right extremists, demonstrating once again that the greatest danger currently stems from right-wing extremism,” Dobrindt told a press conference in Berlin.
